Hi! I like to share Based on my experience and few friends and relatives information about MMR (Measles, Mumps, and Rubella) Vaccine.
Can I just come to the Clinic to get Vaccine?
well, you can! (at your own risk) if they have time-slot for you typically they will allow you to take MMR by just walk-in without any appointment, however, it’s recommended to set the appointment so you could guarantee the availability and queuing time.
Does Singapore support MMR Vaccine?
Yes! Government has set your baby vaccine schedule start from your baby born. And for Singaporean, there is a government subsidy for it. then, when your kid going to Primary School, one of the criteria is Vaccine. for more information, please take a look at here.
At my own Experience giving Vaccine to 2 kids, the nurse advise me to feed egg to the kid prior to the vaccine. to check if kid alergic to egg or not, if not then it’s good to proceed with the vaccine.
Where you can get / set appointment for MMR vaccine?
there are few choices, like paediatrician in hospital, private or government clinic and Polyclinic.
So what’s the different?
If you decide to get a doctor consultation, the process will be the same, first find the doctor (could be based on review or reference), then contact the clinic or hospital of where he/she work to make an appointment. then on the day itself the doctor will do a check-up on the baby to make sure that the baby is fit enough to receive the MMR injection.
For Polyclinic, is a little bit different. just for your information: Polyclinics are run by Government. So the first thing that you should do is to call this number: +65.63553000 so set the appointment. then you need to prepare on your basic information to do the 1 time first registration. Note: appointment on the weekend is typically will be more difficult. (generally you will get 1 month later for the time-slot).
For Vaccine, typically you will only see the nurses. The nurse will ask you a few questions about your particular and baby information (e.g. any allergic, is he/she been sick before, last meal etc.) before she give the injection. Nurses can’t advice or do any medical diagnosis. if you need to do a medical diagnosis, you need to see a doctor. and typically Nurse will refer you to a doctor when you ask deeper or require a medical diagnosis. as today’s far, I always bring my 2 Kids to Polyclinic to get the Vaccine. generally their nurses are very professional and experienced, I’m satisfied with their services.
However, if you in doubt or have something more serious to discussed / consult, it’s better to see a doctor, as they can give a decision or medical advise to you.
What is the cost, approximately ?
For Singaporean and PR families you will get a government subsidy. and it will be far more less compared with normal price, because Singapore Government is very supportive on Vaccine to children in Singapore.
When you go and see Doctor, you will get an additional consultation service cost, and typically it will be around $30 to $50. and for a specific paediatrician or Hospital Doctor, the cost could be twice or more.
and for 1st timer, there will be a fee called “1st time consultation fee” this will make your first time visit fee will higher as compared with the subsequent visit.
For foreigner, the Polyclinic fee will be the same (more or less) with the private doctor, only you don’t need to pay for doctor consultation fee. You just need to pay injection fee. Please see below for your reference vaccine fee in Polyclinic.
