When you travel with kids in Singapore with public transport, you may wondering if kids need to pay and tapping MRT card / EZ Link Card?
This would be a common question when you come to Singapore. when you about to take MRT or bus in Singapore, you may aware that there is a sign that telling you that kids higher than 90 cm should use EZLink card, however there some information that not many people aware, that kids under 7 years old can go with public transport for FREE, yes FREE! however they need to be accompanied with adult when roaming around.
Some people may missed the information or confused with various transportation card offered, and yes, adult and kids have a different card. and for kids there is a special card called “Child concession card” it’s for kids taller than 90 cm and younger than 7 years old. this card work normal as the other adult card, you can use it for bus or MRT and only it doesn’t require for cash top up neither deposit until your registered kids reach 7 years old.
Hmm, but then why don’t all of adult buy this card…? don’t even try this in Singapore especially if you plan to stay permanent or longer, you gonna embarrassed or perhaps caught by the security. the card itself have a different sound signal when you tap into the bus or MRT.
So, what should I do to get this card for my kid? everything in Singapore is relatively simple, all you need to do is just come to any ticket counter in MRT station and ask for the concession pass. they will ask your kid’s ID (passport / birth certificate) and parent/guardian’s ID.
